Livable Planet Solutions, LLC maintains strategic
associations with a broad network of green professionals
including skilled designers, building engineers, vendor and
material supply chain authorities, and other industry
experts that add exceptional value to any project.
Brett E. Farbstein, founder and managing member of
Livable Planet Solutions, LLC, has been engaged in green
building and sustainability activities for more than 15
years with experience as an architectural designer,
construction manager, land developer, and community
organizer.
Brett’s projects have used natural building materials and techniques including passive solar design, straw bale, rammed earth, and clay plasters, as well as the latest renewable and energy efficient technologies such as solar hot water and photovoltaic systems, insulated concrete block, radiant heating, and CF lighting. Projects also emphasized creating a non-toxic, healthy indoor environment by using low-voc paints and sealers, formaldehyde free materials, and proper air ventilation. Brett spent many years managing and working with Habitat for Humanity and other non-profit housing organizations to promote and implement best environmental practices in projects from single-family residences to large, mixed-use adaptive reuse developments. Since the budget margins on these projects were always tight, special attention was spent on the frugality of resources and weighing the value of all material, equipment, and design decisions.
Brett’s education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with an Environmental concentration and a minor in Architecture. Brett is a LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Accredited Professional and a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and the Association of Energy Engineers. Brett has received certifications in Solar Home Design and Photovoltaic System Design & Installation from Solar Energy International in Carbondale, CO. Brett is an approved National Association of Home Builders Green Guidelines Verifier. Additionally, Brett is pursuing his Energy Management, HERS Rater, and Geothermal Installer Certifications.
Brett, along with his wife Kristin (an education
researcher) and their young daughter Esme’, try to live a
low environmental impact lifestyle by using all natural and
non-toxic hygiene and cleaning products, recycling, eating
local and organic foods, growing their own vegetables, and
being mindful of their purchases and driving. While
restoring their 1820 farmhouse in Maine and their 1910
colonial in Rhode Island, Brett used natural and certified
products and reused salvaged materials where possible.
